I finally got a BART survey to fill out! After years of riding BART, I honestly don't know why I have yet to receive a survey until this morning! Maybe I just happen to be on vacation out of country whenever they pass it out? Well, I got one today, yes!
I just filled it out but realized it is not a satisfaction survey like I hoped it would be. It's more of a profile/background survey to understand riders. Oh well...maybe next time.
If it had been a satisfaction survey, I was planning on posting my responses on BART Musings to show how I feel about BART. You might be surprised just how many positives I would have indicated and if you've been reading this blog for awhile, you probably wouldn't be surprised at all at which areas I would have indicated as below average or need improvement.
But since this survey didn't address satisfaction whatsoever, I figured I'll give my own rating of BART ridership satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest.
My BART satisfaction rating is 7. Not bad.
Yours?
Over the many years I have been riding BART, I have seen BART's satisfaction surveys on rare occasions, but I have NEVER seen the results posted anywhere. One gets the impression that BART management doesn't want to let anyone know what people really think of BART.
ReplyDeleteI think they do make those accessible to public. I've seen articles written about the survey results, highlighting the good and bad. I don't know if they actually promote the results for everyone to examine but I am pretty sure they are publicly accessible.
ReplyDeleteI'd give BART an 8 overall. It gets me from my home to work (and back) with minimal hassle. There are the occasional delays or a crowded train, but I dread to think how much more hassle I would have if I had to drive across the Bay Bridge every day.
ReplyDeleteI, too, got one of those surveys the other day. I, too, was disappointed that it was a survey based on a specific trip, or round trip, instead of commenting on BART in general. If I recall, there is a comment section at the bottom of page 2. I will be putting additional comments, not related to the specific round-trip in there - such as how nasty the upholstery seats are and the carpet. And suggesting, that instead of getting new upholstery seats, they should do the plain ol' plastic ones & give them kudos for getting rid of the carpet.
ReplyDeleteWith my commute, it's a 8 on the way to work, and 4 back. Why? From where I get in, I usually get a seat and then I relax and listen to music. Going home, I get on at Embarcadero, never a seat by that point and I remain standing until things loosen up 1 stop before my stop. The way back, trains tend to be stuffier, trashier, and with intolerable odors at times.
ReplyDeleteGlad to have read this post because I thought the survey was about rider satisfaction as well. I will be less eager to find one now. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOverall I would give BART a 7 of 10. Most days I am very glad that it exists and that it gets me where I need to go. Other times I am frustrated with the crowded trains, annoying and rude riders, the mess, the smell and whatever else it could end up being.
Most of all I am not happy with the delays and not knowing about delays before I get there or not being able to notify my employer when there is a delay because I'm underground.
It is also a 8 for me. Bart is by far the best way to get into SF downtown even I live very close to the city. If you ever have a chance to take SF MUNI, you will be very happy to the service level that Bart provided.
