The same salary report reveals that BART janitors earn $96,000 average a year. I wonder how their workload is divided and if a station (or train) is ever thoroughly cleaned? I saw the same rotten food stain at the Market/8th entrance of the Civic Center station 2 days in a row.
That is just one example. I see many a spills, half full alcohol bottles..etc not cleaned up in a timely fashion. Maybe they feel that just putting a yellow signage over the spillage or trash is good enough?

Oh yes, how could I forget to write about that!! The pee stains! At CC station, there are dried urine stains of all shades of orange and yellow. I guess since the floors are already so dirty, they figured they don't need to keep it clean anymore??

Why doesn't each station have a dedicated janitor that's there all day during normal hours to mop stuff up?
Or is the problem that they DO have a janitor, and the janitors are just too lazy?
These people make almost $100k to push a broom - why is it we never see them?
The condition of the stations is fast degenerating to third world standard. Cleaning up urine and old food may be below what BART janitors would do.
FYI no one leaves a half-full alcohol bottle just lying around. What you are seeing are half-full piss bottles.

To Erik, kudos to those who can piss in a bottle. Maybe we could teach them to find a restroom. Of course, those who hang at Civic Center are not even to the bottle stage yet.
The stairs from Embarcadero to California/Drumm (Hyatt) smelled strongly of urine for days. And don't get me started on the escalator there that was out of service for WEEKS!
Since the rest rooms at the downtown SF and Oakland stations have been closed since 9/11, shouldn't there have been a reduction in the number of janitors needed? What happened to the extra (surplus) headcount?
Maybe everyone should get off at the West Oakland station. The platforms, ground floor, and station exterior are well-maintained, and on two occasions I've seen the results of riders taking a dump on the steps to the platform (really), it's cleaned up in a reasonable amount of time. I do wonder--why on the steps?
Anyway, the next time you're BARTing through West Oakland, get off and give yourself a tour of the station--it's pretty nice!
