Feet among many other sources of germs on BART

I know that there are many other sources of germs on BART, but there is just something about seeing someone taking their shoes off, exposing their feet and toes, stretching the toes, folding their barefeet up on the seat, resting their barefeet against the seat in front and hanging their nasty feet off the edge and blocking 50% of the aisle. But the worst, the worst feet offense of all is when they accidentally touch you with their toes or their feet is pressed against your thigh because it's up on the seat. Luckily, I've yet to experience that. But oh my lord, if anyone ever did that to me, I will cause a scene.

Is it so hard to keep your shoes on while on BART? If you must take your shoes off, why can't you just leave your feet down where they should be?

Isn't BART dirty enough? Must passenger now have to deal with the sight of feet within their view too??

additions to the list: 1) people who clip their fingernails letting the clippings fly where they may. at least i haven't seen anyone clipping toenails yet! 2) people who lean back and put their greasy hair on the seat backs. if there was ever a good reason not to put your head on a seat, this is it! 3) comparatively, way way down on the offensive list are people who put on their makeup. in any of these i don't think there's an answer for the plain lack of manners, consideration, and being clueless.

I totally agree with you on all accounts. Absolutely disgusting. I've seen a man (I wrote about this a few months ago I think) who clipped his fingernails on the train and the clippings, like you said, were flying in all directions!! Luckily, I didn't see one land on my lap, or else I really would have cause some drama!

I never lean back on BART. I try to minimize my body contact with the train, bars and seats. I've seen dandruff and scabs on people's hair.

The make-up thing to me is interesting. I wouldn't ever do that, but how do these women know they'll get a seat? What is they are left with no seats, are they going to go to work without their many layers of make-up? It's just entertaining to me to see them pop out a brush, foundation, powder, lash curler, mascara, eye pencil, lipliner, lipstick, gloss...etc. Geez, why don't you just get dressed on BART?

2 days ago, I had the horrible... HORRIBLE experience of having the lady sitting next to me paint her fingernails on the train. As you can imagine, the fumes from the nail polish were overpowering... but, that wasn't the HORRIBLE part.. that part came when she proceeded to remove her shoes and then also clip, then paint her toenails! If it wasn't for the fact that it was a fairly full train, and I was sitting on the inside seat, I probably would have moved elsewhere.

Of course, I didn't say anything to her, since it seems that any time I do speak up, the other person always responds in a way that makes me feel like the a--hole.

That is unbelievably rude!! Nail polish?? Geez. That fume is toxic.

It is shocking how many people have no manners at all...well, actually, it's not that shocking to me after riding BART for years.

Hiya. If you ask the train operator nicely, they may be willing to make a "no nail painting" announcement.

Clipping and painting their toenails on BART! Unbelieveable. Someone should have taken a picture of that and posted it, maybe on the BART website to promote BART (BART can save you time ... do on BART the things most people do in the privacy of their homes!). Where is a photographer when you really need one ... maybe for an article on the hopelessly clueless (see other musing on roaming photographer)?

do we have to ask ticket agents, bart cops, and train operators *NICELY* to enforce the rules on BART? i know nail painting probably isn't officially on the "Prohibited" list, but what about people eating on BART or not paying? when did the average BART rider have to ask BART workers to do their job?

not that telling some bart employees is going to do any good ... there are those who smoke near posted "no smoking" areas so that bart patrons have to walk through clouds of smoke to enter or exit a station. after complaining to a station agent (who did absolutely nothing, not even reminding the offending parties of the posting) and to the bart complaint email address, it seems that no one except a police officer is going to do anything to enforce this (this seems to be more "it's not my job"). so, i believe that bart should just have full-time bart police at every station and get rid of those employees who are more window-dressing than anything else. there are plenty of other real and potential bart crimes that require a police presence.
