People who pry the train doors open just to get on!

We've all seen this! People who are running up or down the escalator as the train door is closing but they refuse to wait for the next train so they decide to risk getting bruises on their arms and legs to stick their arms/legs to pry open the doors! Generally when that happens, the doors get stuck, the train operator has to re-open and re-close several times before the train gets going again.

I guess many passengers were running late this morning since at every other stop on the way to SF, someone forced the door open as it shuts. One person even had the audacity to reach between the closing doors with less than 2 inches to spare, pulled it open, stuffed his arms in, and finally twisting his body through. He walked in looking smug, as if he's beaten the system. Unfortunately, this caused a 20 second delay in our departure.

One by one, they pry open the shutting train doors. With each "intruder", the train doors take some additional time to "normalize". After seeing 5 different people pry the doors open, it got a little old!

People who are approaching as the door shuts should just let it shut!! You've missed the train so just get in line, read your newspaper/book, and wait for the next one!!!

The main problem with this behavior is, BART train doors are not like elevator door, they do not open automatic. What can and does happen, is the train will have to be taken out of service because, the doors will not now close properly. So, the jerk who could not wait for another train, is now going to make everyone late!

I was on a train where that happened once. At MacArthur stations, on the morning ride in, some selfish jerk just couldn't wait, had to jam the doors open. I was on the car when he did it... And when the train operator tried repeatedly to get the doors to shut. He got a lot of icy stares, and then when the announcement came on that we all had to get off the train, some guy says "Thanks alot, a--hole!" to the door breaker. Talk about being the object of a few hundred people's ire...

Well, I have to admit having pried a door or two open in my time and, to be honest, I have mixed feelings about it. When the next train in 10, 15, or more minutes away or there's just no way to tell how far away your next train is or you're just plain in a hurry, it doesn't seem like such a bad idea to take a chance that the doors won't malfunction. Maybe if the train operators would open the doors again just once in a while, although when do they stop and say things just need to move on? A true dilemma.

On the other hand, BART has been in existence for around 30 years and we are still having door malfunction problems. It's a lot less than it was years ago, but at this stage in the game shouldn't things like this, door malfunctions, happen very infrequently? Despite all of this time, not to mention all of the money poured into it, in numerous ways BART just doesn't seem to have made much progress and one wonders why.

I definitely have and will push my way through the doors! Those doors close far too quickly for the amount of ppl off boarding and on boarding in rush hours. I don't think it's great to have to pry the doors open, but I think look at the whole situation. what about the people that take their sweet time to get off Bart and leave only 5 seconds to board? And with how inconsistent Bart can be, who can count on the next train to be there? I highly doubt a lot of ppl enjoy prying the door open(even if that one dude had a smug look afterwards). Bart as a whole is an old system that can't keep up with recent times and needs.
